Bill Baxter

I originally trained as an illustrator and toy designer due to my love of mechanics. While working my way up in the toy industry, I was naturally pushed into brand management and manufacturing. This meant I got a high-level overview of the entire business of making consumer products — from working with factories to dealing with retailers, shipping, and strict margins. I’ve been involved  in all sorts of business models and production processes, and have tackled all their respective challenges on the manufacturing side of the business.

When CPSIA  passed in 2008, I landed a job at Bureau Veritas. They required someone with toy industry experience that could quickly master testing and regulations. It was the perfect opportunity to bring my design and manufacturing skills to bear on compliance problems. BV placed me in-house at Toys R Us, where I underwent the toughest of compliance boot-camps for the thousands of SKUS that Toys R Us carried.

Eventually, I moved to a role at SGS, where I helped my clients understand the regulations that applied to their products, and developed an ability to translate all the complexities of Standards and Regulations into easy-to-understand language. I honed my international skills and returned to manufacturing as a compliance manager at littleBits, an electronics Ed-Tech startup that needed help going global in the children's product space.

It was at littleBits that I realized that many companies out there need help, but don't necessarily need a full-time compliance person on staff. Baxter Regulatory Solutions is the solution to that problem. I take my knowledge and contacts in the compliance industry and leverage that into quick and inexpensive solutions to compliance issues — solutions that get the answer right the first time.
